about
On a breakthrough run of performances including a sell-out Dublin debut, a showcase set at Ireland Music Week and an Irish tour, 405 - a summer banger with no restraints demanding the high life - has only ever been performed with sunglasses on. The Irish alternative R&B/pop artist recalls hazy summers past on this new track.
Arthur has always pulled inspiration from a wide-array of artists, with previous releases being compared to Clairo, BROCKHAMPTON’s more melodic tracks, Justin Timberlake's unstoppable aughts run, and Frank Ocean’s earlier work. Written by the artist and joined behind the boards by his long-running production team Actualacid and Automatic Blue, this new song offers a fresh take on the format of a summer banger - radiating sunbeam organ synths and an amped-up bassline.
“405 reflects on a period of time I spent living in Vancouver, Canada. The lyrics highlight the lifestyle I was living at the time - a very minimalist, bare-bones, carefree way of living. It reminisces on the times spent skating around the city or to Kitsilano beach to spend all day doing nothing in bliss. The track itself was written at a time where I felt an awful lot of pressure and weight from external sources, as if I was being crushed by the weight of the world. Making 405 acted as a way to escape that pressure and contextualise things a bit. I mean, it’s hard not to feel more upbeat when those drums kick in. 405 is unlike any song I’ve ever released before and I feel like, creatively, it came from a place I had never really drawn from before. Making this track was honestly one of the most joyful recording experiences I’ve ever had and I think that comes through in the track.” - Arthur Valentine
lyrics
[Intro]
Penny roll, pack a bowl and slip away
Centrefold, body gold and catch a wave
Cali grown, BC home and Fraser shade
Rap the door, metal cold and pennies saved
[Chorus: Arthur Valentine]
High Life, waking up broke, sharing sofas yeah we sleeping right
High Life, waking up stoned, hit the road cause we livin' that
High Life, lesson learned still earn one-one, burnt like third degree
High Life, it's your turn discern what what let the summer breath
[Verse: Arthur Valentine]
Hit a left turn, your brakes burn, eraser, tearing holes through your soles as your face burns
Had the best time when your brains fried, roll and bowl it, switching lane like a 10 strike
Best buy, No Frills dinner for winner, get you trimmer, riding no hands in bimmer no zimmer
Roll ya pinner, sippin' on malt liquor, talking two tank tops cold in the winter
[Pre-Chorus: Arthur Valentine]
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
[Chorus: Arthur Valentine]
High Life, waking up broke, sharing sofas yeah we sleeping right
High Life, waking up stoned, hit the road cause we livin that
High Life, lesson learned still earn one-one, burnt like third degree
High Life, it's your turn discern what what let the summer breathe
[Outro: Arthur Valentine]
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
Still dream of cruisin' down to Kits to smoke, yeah that's the vibe
Now I'm calling out to Interscope, 405
